Born on July 23, 1930, in Winnipeg, Canada, Dolores was the cherished daughter of Reginald and Verna Cross. She had 2 sisters, one died as an infant, and Marilynn Kleyh, who preceded her in death. Dolores spent her early years in Canada before moving to Kansas City at the age of 15. It was there that she graduated from Central High School and soon after she became a naturalized American citizen. Dolores met the love of her life, Myron Herman, who was in the Air Force. He affectionately called her "Lorie".
Dolores and Myron were married in 1948 and enjoyed over 70 years of marriage together. Dolores had a natural affinity for numbers, beginning her career at a bank before dedicating herself to raising their children. She maintained a beautiful home, she was a talented seamstress and an amazing cook, also known for her collection of angel ornaments. Together with Myron, they raised their family in Independence, living in the same home for over six decades. Dolores worked as a bus driver for the local schools for more than 25 years and part-time as an accountant for two years, before retiring with Myron in 1987. Later, as they were walking daily at the mall, many kids would recognize her in adoration, because she took them under her wing in loving care as she transported them to school every day.
A woman of deep faith, Dolores was an active member of Maywood Baptist Church until her health no longer permitted. She contributed to the Sunday School and Bus Ministry alongside her husband and volunteered with the Woman's Auxiliary program of Gideon's International. Dolores was a true example of a dedicated Christian. Many people would comment on her beautiful smile and sweet personality.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Myron Elmer Herman, Dolores leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Herman (Brenda) and Tom Herman (Sarah); her daughter, Cindy Hall (Brad); her grandchildren, Kendra, Joel, Brittney, Brooke, Jessica, Landon, Madison, and Parker; her 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Villages of Jackson Creek for their compassionate care during Dolores' final days.
