Rick was born on June 27, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia to Reva and George Burnell. He was an only child and grew up in Independence, Missouri. He was a proud Eagle Scout. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri, and went on to pursue a college education from the University of Central Missouri State where he received a degree in criminal justice, and a master's degree in public administration.
Rick married in 1980 and moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1984 where him and his wife Mary raised three sons. He loved the game of baseball which took him all the way up to semi pro. He was a pitcher and first baseman. He had a career as a Divisional Sales Director and Recruiter for Rexair, Inc. He was an avid reader of mystery novels, a lead guitarist for a few local bands, a distinguished chess player, and a huge fan of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, and the Kansas Jayhawks. Most of all he was a family man.
Rick is survived by his wife Mary, and their three sons, Bradley Grant, Sean Michael, and Joseph Patrick Burnell. Also, leaving behind his son Brian L. Burnell and grandson Kevin Burnell.
We will always cherish the memories we shared with Rick and he was a true blessing in all of our lives.
