Donald L. Hayes passed away November 8, 2015. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, at the funeral home followed by burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Donald was born in Kansas City, MO, March 7, 1926, son of Leonard and Susie Hayes. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Early in his career he built homes with his father, and in 1958 started Hayes Drilling with his brother Jene. Donald was a hunting and fishing enthusiast, sharing much of his time with friends and family at his “duck lake”. He enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of Blue Hills Country Club. He also loved spending time with his granddaughters.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley. He is survived by his son, Ron Hayes (Ann); granddaughters Tish Hayes (Andrew), Heather Fitzpatrick (Michael), and Brea Hayes (James); brother Jene Hayes (Betty); his sisters-in-law Barbara Hayes and Donna Hayes; extended family and friends.
