

Doris was born on December 15, 1932 in Overland Park, KS to Raymond and Ora (LaForge) Hentzen. She was the 9th of 14 children. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Loretto Academy High School. Early in her career, she worked at Broadway Motors as a cashier. On August 8, 1953, Doris married Richard Edmonds. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and made many meals and treats for family, friends, and neighbors. She loved spending time with children and took every opportunity to be involved in her grandchildren’s’ lives, such as attending grandparents’ days and sports activities. Doris was a founding member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church and served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and was a member of St. Gerard’s guild.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Edmonds, as well as, her parents, Raymond and Ora Hentzen, along with her brothers and sisters, Rita Watson, Gene (Betty), Lorene Spoor (John), Nadine Pearce (Horace), Richard, Bernard “Bud”, Genevieve, Merle (Connie), Jerome, Bob (Cristina), Jim (Loretta), Marilyn O'Connell (Pat), and Barbara.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Richard, and children, Cheryl Nichols (Mark), Dan (Claudia) and Mary Lynn Broll (Peter) and grandchildren, Laura Neir (Roger), Christy Nichols, Angela Isern (Brian), Michele Babin (Dusko) Matt Nichols (Wendi), Mia Meurer (Jacob), Renee Rosinski and great-grandchildren, Alex, Jessica, Cole, Jack, Mark, Carlie, Claire, Kate and Etta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church (9020 E 51st Terr, Kansas City, MO 64133), or St. Mark’s Catholic Church (3736 S Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055).
