Dorothy Kirk Howard

Dorothy K. Howard, 87, Lee’s Summit, MO passed away August 28, 2017. Mrs. Howard was born September 11, 1929 in Vanduser, Missouri to Andrew and Linnie Vaughn. As a young adult she was working as an operator at the phone company and met her future husband Thomas J. Howard. They were married on September 27, 1947. Dorothy was always active in the Baptist church. She was generous and caring to a fault. She opened her home to many extended family members and friends of her children that needed a place to live. She never forgot a birthday for all her family and close friends. She never passed judgment on anyone; instead, she was willing to listen to their story and was willing to help them if she could. She absolutely loved to babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was the happiest listening to stories of their activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers Earl Vaughn, Edward Vaughn and John Vaughn; one sister Gracie Linsman; Nate Bogard husband of granddaughter Ashley. She is survived by her sister Christine Ryan; son, Thomas J. Howard, Jr. and wife Maria; son, Kim Howard and wife Tina; daughter, Lisa Link and husband Greg; seven grandchildren Ashley, Callie and her husband Aubrey; Roseann and her husband Shawn; Paige, Barron and his companion Elsa; Courtney and companion Nathan; Connor and his companion Tianna; and five great-grandchildren Grace, Isabella, Parker, Brock and Hannah. One sister-in-law Lucille Vaughn. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Visitation will be 3:00-4:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 10, at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, at Mount Moriah South Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
