
Dorothy Neenan Mermis, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2013 at her home in Overland Park, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15 at 9:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, Kansas. A private burial will be held on July 16 in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice House, 9233 Ward Parkway #201, Kansas City, Missouri or Prince of Peace Catholic Church (St. Patrick), 4100 Broadway Ave., Great Bend, Kansas.
Dorothy was born on January 17, 1917 in Cameron, Missouri, the second of James and Mildred Neenan's five children. She married Joseph A. Mermis, Jr. in 1941 and together they had six children. Initially, they lived in New York City, but post war they made their home in Great Bend, Kansas where they raised their family and were active in the Great Bend community. Dorothy's faith and family were the center of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, brothers, sisters and brothers-and-sisters-in-law. She is survived by her children, Joe (Joanie Green) Mermis, Marsha Beauperlant, Ken (Anna) Mermis, Steve (Janet) Mermis, Mary (Pat Dreiling) Mermis, and Jane (Will) Lynch; 17 grandchildren and their spouses; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, William E. Clarkson and Frank Andrews and his wife Maxine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
We love you, Mom! Your unwavering faith, love and humor will continue to inspire us all.
