

Dorothy Mae Wheeler, at the age of 84, passed away September. 23, 2015 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, at Friendship Baptist Church, 3530 Chelsea. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Dorothy Mae Wheeler, born on June 27, 1931 to John and Arbella Brown in Hope, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her later husband Billy J. Wheeler, her parents John and Arbella Brown, her three brothers Mack, Arthur and Cleo, and her only sister Augusta Boykins.
Dorothy had worked as an EKG technician at The Veterans Administration Hospital for over 30 years. After her retirement she involved herself with a passion for gardening flowers and vegetables. She was a faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church for many years and loved worshipping the Lord. Every Sunday she looked forward to being picked up by the church van or having her grandson take her to church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music playing softly on the radio that sat on top of her refrigerator. She had a passion for watching the Kansas City Royals baseball and The Chiefs play football on television. She also loved her beloved pets, Stormie, Snowball and Bruiser, her dogs.
She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children Evelyn Moffatt in Cottonwood, Arizona, Freda Elias in St. Louis, Missouri, Fred Elias, Jr. in Kansas City, Missouri, Cathy Elias in Irvine, California, Carol Tabron in Kansas City, Missouri, Joe Nathan Elias in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mark Wheeler in Hayes, Kansas. She also leaves her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Friendship Baptist Church family.
