

Earlene Peterson passed away peacefully in her home in Prairie Village on September 30, 2012, with her family at her side. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 67th and Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS. Cremation. The family will greet friends at the church after the service. Earlene was born in Kansas City, MO, on July 21, 1922, in Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her father, James T. Workman, her mother, Mary Lena (Brown) Workman, and her son, Jason A. Peterson. She married Vernon E. (Pete) Peterson on Jan. 10, 1942. They were married 52 years before his death in 1994. She is survived by her sons, Scott Peterson, Prairie Village, KS, and Jeff Peterson, Dallas, TX; granddaughters Lindsey Peterson, Dallas, TX, and Kari (Owen) Hutchison, Ft. Worth, TX; great grandson Gavin Paul Hutchison, Ft. Worth, TX; niece Vonnie Leverett, Overland Park, KS; and dear friend and traveling companion Gibson Hart, Olathe, KS. Earlene spent all of her life in the Greater Kansas City area. She grew up in Southeast Kansas City, MO. After the war she and her family moved to their new home in Prairie Village, where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Paseo High School, Central Missouri State University, and obtained an Orientation and Mobility Certificate. She taught at the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired from 1966 to 1977. She was a long-time member of PEO, Chapter GJ. She was a member and past president of the Prairie Village Arts Council. She was a member and past president of the Forty Year Ago Club. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a caring friend to those she served. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers, especially Edy Sullivan and Rita Walker, of Compassionate Care, who gave Earlene such loving care for her last few years.
