Edith Victoria (Vickie) Robinson Hader Handy passed away on Monday, November 27th after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She maintained her cheer and spirit to the very end of her journey. Funeral service 11am Sat., Dec. 2nd at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel, 11924 E. 47th St. KCMO 64133, with visitation one hour prior.
Her life was highlighted with hard work, volunteerism, a love of learning and unmatched generosity toward her family and community. Born in Kansas City in 1921 to Victor and Edith Robinson, she raised herself after losing her Mother when Vickie was 12. At 18 she married the love of her life, Harold Lee Hader. She then began her life of volunteering, cooking, Girl Scouting, cake decorating, gardening, dancing and other interests too numerous to mention. After losing Harold to an untimely death in 1970, she took over the responsibility of running the family business, Hader Poultry, ultimately sharing duties with her son, Rodney Hader until the business closed in 2003. In 1975 she married Perry D. Handy, a marriage lasting over 40 years, who dutifully remained with her every day until she passed.
Her commitment to volunteering and helping others earned her recognition from Trinity Lutheran Hospital for 15,000 hours of volunteer service. After Trinity closed, she continued volunteering at Research Hospital where she served until a fall in 2012 ended her service.
She was a very devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother.
Vickie was preceded in death by her brother, J.W. Robinson and her sister, Lucille Ballew. Surviving are her husband, Perry Handy of the home; daughter, Vicki Hader Riffle and son, Rodney Hader (Sally). Grandchildren, Rodney Riffle (Jamie), Sarah Christon (Tzaras) and Colby Hader; 8 great-grandchildren and 4 nieces and nephews.
Her philosophies of life; "Say what you mean and mean what you say” as well as, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", will be forever with us. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, FL 34655. Online condolences to www.mcgilleysheil.com.
