

Ed graduated in 1943 from Marshall High School in Marshall, Missouri, where he starred on both the football and basketball teams. Immediately after graduation, Edward enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He proudly served during World War II. In 1950, he married Peggy Jane Todd, and they settled in Kansas City, Missouri. They celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Together, Edward and Peggy enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, and travelling to Las Vegas. Edward worked for over thirty years at General Motors Fairfax plant and, after retirement from General Motors, worked several more years for Toyota in the Kansas City area.
Ed loved the Kansas City Royals and watched or listened to almost every game. Ed enjoyed playing golf at the Plattsburg Country Club. He also enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball in the Nashua Community in North Kansas City. During his later years, when not following the Royals, Ed could be found frequenting garage sales all across the North Kansas City area.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife Peggy, his daughter Janet Short, and two sisters, Marge Easterwood and Maxine Crowder. He is survived by his son Jerry and wife Melodie Powell of Kansas City, Missouri; his daughter Judy Walker and husband Tim of Dearborn, Missouri; and his daughter Jeanne Oliphant and husband Terry of Turney, Missouri. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Brian Walker (Tammy), Brad Walker, Beth Walker, Cody Walker (Megan), Tara Lang (Shane) and Nathan Oliphant (Amy). In addition, Ed is survived by ten great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11 AM at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish to remember Ed in a special way, memorial contributions may be made to Gower Convalescent Center, or a charity of their choice.
The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to Ed’s wonderful care team at Gower Convalescent Center. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Freudenthal Hospice Nurse, Sonja, and Social Worker, Stefanie, for their care to Edward.
