He was surrounded by his devoted wife of 70 years, Domenica “Rosie” Sosna, and other members of his family. Ed grew up in Kansas City, Kansas with his loving parents and his 3 rowdy brothers. For the record, Ed would want everyone to know, “he was the better brother.” He attended Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduation, Ed started working at the Gas Company where a beautiful woman with long, dark hair caught his eye and the two were introduced. After one coffee date led to another, the pair began their courtship and got engaged in 1950. Ed served overseas in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean War. Rosie became his bride in June 1953, and this month marks 70 years of their steadfast love. They raised a beautiful family with 4 children and shared many wonderful memories over the years.
After the military, Ed worked 40 years for the Missouri Gas Service Company before entering his retirement at age 57. Once retired, he loved dealing cards at corporate events and delivered flowers for special occasions. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and playing card games with his family (especially pinochle and blackjack). Ed and Rosie stayed involved in many social and church activities, where they made lifelong friendships. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, uncle, father and “Popo” to his family. Ed is known for his witty humor, warm smile, love for pepsi and his famous chili recipe. His welcoming spirit and genuine heart drew friends and strangers alike. All were like family to Ed. He was a loyal friend and a devoted follower of Christ who lived out his faith and love every single day. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ed was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Michael Sosna, his parents, Frank and Anna Sosna, his brothers, Frank and Robert Sosna, his best friend, Vincent Shortino, and many other beloved family members.
Ed is survived by his wife, Rosie Sosna, his brother, Donald Sosna (Marge), his children, Anne Lawrence (Keith), Thomas Sosna (Therese), Dina Mervosh (Mitchell), and his grandchildren, Danielle “Sister Marie Noelle” Lawrence, Melany Donovan (Matt), Andrew Lawrence, Anthony Sosna (Melinna), Natalie Friend (Beau), Nicole Friend (Niko), and great-grandchildren (Layla, Alivia, Joshua, Guitano, Zion and Rome). He was also overjoyed to be considered an honorary grandpa and Popo to ‘his second family,’ the Mervoshes.
