Eleanor Ann (Coleman) Murray, age 89 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on November 7, 2023. She spent her final days surrounded by family. She was born on June 27, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a kind, sweet, loving person who had a smile for everyone.
Eleanor graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1951. After high school she attended KCJC-UMKC before starting a career at Research Hospital. She was a lab technician and because of her quest for knowledge was taught how to run EKGs. She was proud that President Harry S. Truman was one of her patients.
On February 9, 1957 she married James P. Murray. She embraced the role of taking care of her mother-in-law who had cancer while raising her first child. In June of 1960, the family moved to Raytown, MO. Eleanor was very involved as a PTA member, Boy Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and many other civic and charitable causes. She led numerous fundraising efforts, was a tireless volunteer, and attended virtually every event that her kids were involved in. Her four children always knew she would be there to cheer them on!
In 2015, she moved to Brookdale Wornall and immediately became involved in the Residents Council and eventually was elected President. She was very proud of their accomplishments including new elevated garden beds, and raising money for the Annual Staff Christmas Fund. She was an enthusiastic advocate for the residents, and went to great lengths to accomplish their desires. She encouraged spirited cooperation and teamwork on the path to overall success. Cooperation and Teamwork are two words that she constantly shared with everyone she encountered.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her brother, Ted Coleman, daughter-in-law Luretta Murray, nephew David Coleman and grandson Brett Hallford.
She is survived by her special sister-in-law Carolyn Coleman, her children Pat Murray, Tim Murray (Christine), Kelly Murray O’Connor (Andy) and Sheila Murray. She was the proud grandmother, Mum Mum, Mo Mo and Gigi to 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren (one arriving in January). She is also survived by her nephew Dan Coleman and many dear cousins. We will miss her glowing smile and warm hugs.
The family acknowledges and appreciates the care and kindness Eleanor received over the past year from the wonderful staffs at St. Luke’s South Hospital and Brookdale Overland Park.
