Eleanor Jean Durst Hite Shumaker passed away April 22nd, 2026. She was born in Johnstown, PA on July 27, 1928, to Harry Olen and Millie Grace Durst. After graduating from Johnstown High School in 1946, she started her 30-year career in the government in Washington DC and many other places in the country as a secretary. She married Jack Hite USMC in 1949 and had two children, Greer Jean Hite and Curtis Vernon Hite. After Jack’s death she married WO-2 John W Shumaker USMC and had one child Lori Ann Shumaker.
Preceded in death by both parents, two daughters Greer Marchand of Charlotte North Carolina and Lori Ann Shumaker of Blue Springs, Missouri. She is survived by one son Curtis Hite and wife Rebecca and grandson Brian Marchand and wife Jessica and two great grandchildren Jackson and Savana of Charlotte North Carolina.
She will be interned at Floral Hills East in Lees Summit Missouri in the family plot.
