
Elizabeth Anne Norris, 83, departed this life for a better one on March 12, 2011. Elizabeth was born on October 11, 1927. Elizabeth’s parents and sister, Mary Catherine, preceded her in death. Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Martha Rose Norris, and her dear friend of 50 years, Esther Rocha.
Elizabeth had a long and varied career which was centered on helping people. She worked at Catholic Charities in the Division of Family and Children Services. While there she organized and administered the Parish Workers association that supported forty Catholic parishes’ food pantries. Elizabeth also served as the Director of Guadalupe Center. Elizabeth started and taught in the Social Work Department at Avila University. In her later life, Elizabeth’s efforts continued through her aluminum can ministry. She collected and sold aluminum cans for many years and gave the proceeds to programs that helped the poor.
Visitation for Elizabeth will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Redemptorist Parish, 3333 Broadway in Kansas City, from 12:00 – 1:00 on Tuesday, March 15th. The rosary will be prayed at 1:00 and the Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 at the church, and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Elizabeth will best be remembered for her love of life, her support of the poor and her pride in her Irish heritage. She will be dearly missed by her many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Cristo Rey Kansas City School at 211 W. Linwood Blvd.
