

Ella Slaughter passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015. She was born August 1. 1926 in Marshall, MO to Emmett and Georgie Lee (Williams) Sutherlin and was raised in Sedalia, MO. She lived her life as a housewife. Ella had a zest for life. She enjoyed getting together and having fun with family and friends. Ella would quickly get to know people, ensuring they felt comfortable in her company.
Ella was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dick and Ella Sutherlin, Lester and Alice Williams; parents, Emmett Sutherlin, Sr. (Shadow) and Georgie Lee (Mama Jo) Sutherlin; sister, Ruby Lee Carroll; brothers, Charles, Robert (Bub) and Harold Eugene (Gene) Sutherlin; son, Phillip Slaughter (Viet Nam KIA); daughter, Virgie I. Carter; granddaughter, DeAntreia Ashley; grandson, Daniel Slaughter; and husband of 60 years, Virgil Slaughter.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Mildred Terry of Arvada, CO and Barbara K. Slaughter, KCMO; two sons, Ivory Terry and Virgil D. Slaughter, both of KCMO; brother, Emmett Sutherlin; sister, Pauline Adams, both of KCMO; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., KCMO. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 at the chapel. Burial will be in Brooking Cemetery.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Crossroads Hospice and Goddaughter, Deitra Ross, RN and all the family and friends that sent prayers during Ella’s illness.
