Services were held Monday, May 13 at the Country Club Christian Church. Tax deductible memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Lake Yacht Club Sailing Foundation, P.O. Box 624, Granby, CO 80446.
Lovingly known by many as “Big Z”, Eugene was a graduate of Pembroke Country Day Preparatory School for Boys (’50) and the University of Missouri, Columbia (’54). Between semesters his senior year, he was married to the love of his life and “very best friend”, Charlotte. They were joined by four children. Shortly after college he reported to Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base as a Lieutenant.
After his tour of duty he entered into the insurance field as President/CEO of several national insurance companies until his retirement in 1991. During that time Gene also owned several other businesses and a registered Hereford ranch.
After retirement, he was very involved in several 501(c)3 organizations in addition to the YMCA of the Rockies where he had been on the Board for 38 years. Among those were the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, the Greater Grand Lake Shoreline Association and he founded the Grand Lake Yacht Club Sailing Foundation. Grandpa Z was an exceptionally generous man and as ornery as they come. He took life seriously, but was always willing to laugh about it later. His love for Charlotte was unparalleled.
He was preceded in death by his doting wife, Charlotte Jones Zachman and is survived by his children Eugene Ralph Zachman, Ann Zachman Wilbur, James Alan Zachman, Janet Zachman Turney and nine grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mtmoriah.net for the Zachman family.
