

Gale Hawkins, age 86, passed away October 12, 2017 at home. Visitation will be at Floral Hills Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21st at 9:00am followed by funeral services at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Church, 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065. Gale attended Central and East High Schools. At 17, he joined the Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Curtis. Upon returning to Kansas City he trained as a Die Maker until the Korean Conflict at which time he joined the Marines and became a Military Policeman. He was honorable discharged from both services. Returning to Kansas City he was an insurance agent for National Life before joining Frederick Mfg. Co. in 1957. He spent the rest of his life helping to build this company into a national supplier of lawnmower replacement parts. He held the office of Vice-President. He retired in 1987. Gale loved all sports. In youth he played baseball in the 3 & 2 League and in the 1970’s coached in the Ban Johnson League. He served on the Board of Governors of Park Lane Hospital. He was an excellent cook and liked to share his creations with friends and neighbors. He never knew a stranger and loved to tease. There was never a dull moment when around him. He leaves to mourn his passing his nephew Eddie Woolridge and wife Renee; also Pamela Sue Avery, Donna Faye Boudrow, Linda Hunsucker, Carol Moore and Mary Duncan, all nieces, and many other friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, 6 months, and 20 days, Lila Lee; his mother and father Alice and Gale Hawkins and step-father, Merle Payne.
