

Gary died peacefully at home with his wife by his side after a long battle with cancer.
Gary Lewis Taylor was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on March 4th,1949 to parents Lewis and Ethel (Toney) Taylor. The family moved to Kansas City when he was a small boy, where he lived the rest of his life.
Gary graduated from Central High School. He joined the Army shortly after graduating. He served more than 5 years and spent two tours in Vietnam as a communication specialist. He received an honorable discharge after being wounded in the line of duty.
Gary worked at different places throughout his life, including Allis Chalmers, Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Procter and Gamble, and most recently at Sanofi (formerly Marion Labs) where he retired after working for twenty years.
Gary was a member of Sheffield Family Life Center for years and later at what is now Commision Church. His faith in God was unwavering. It sustained him through thick and thin.
Gary is survived in death by his wife of twenty five years, Vicki (Wallace) Taylor, Stepson Chad Derr (Abby), Stepdaughter Heather Rhodes (Michael), seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, five sisters, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan and never missed a game. He mostly enjoyed just being at home watching TV with his wife, working out, or reading sports and current event news on his computer. Throw in an occasional trip to the casino and he was a happy man. Gary had a way of keeping life simple and uncomplicated. He was a kind and generous man, and will be missed everyday.
Join us for a Celebration of Gary's Life at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd on Saturday February 7th, 2026 at 2pm. Following the service, guests are invited to a gathering where we will share food, drinks, and stories about Gary. This will also take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home.
