George Edward Frazier (Ed) passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010, of natural causes at his home in Lawrence, Kansas. Ed was born March 25, 1963, to Bill and Doe Frazier. He will be greatly missed by those who survived him, his loving mother Doe and his sister Donna both of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He was proceeded in death by his father Bill.
Ed was raised in Independence, Missouri, where he was a 1981 graduate of Truman High School. He continued his education at both UCLA and UMKC where he ultimately earned a masters degree in English. He made a career as a talented copy writer in advertising, and also taught university English classes at several colleges including Rockhurst and Johnson County Community College. Ed was a past Master Counselor of the Independence DeMolay where he excelled in public speaking and leadership. He competed and won in both State and National ritual competitions and had conferred upon him the Degree of Chevalier by DeMolay Internationals Supreme Council, among the highest honors one can receive. He was also an Eagle Scout and Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, where he remained active until his passing.
Eddie was an original, one-of-a-kind person. He was an original in the way he made you laugh with his irreverent wit and observations; he was an original because he never forgot your birthday or your passions in life; he was an original because Eddie gave each of his friends the rare understanding of what it truly meant to be loved by a loyal friend. Ed would take your father to a ball game, buy you a subscription to the New Yorker, or call to let you know someone you liked was on Charlie Rose that night. Eddie faithfully stood by his friends in their time of need. Ed was an original for his love of the Lakers, Dodgers, Raiders and Cornhuskers, and above all else, his passion for the beauty of baseball. Ed was an original because he possessed the unique combination of a fierce competitor, which he often displayed at both the dominoes table and basketball court. He was also one of the most gentle, loving dog owners to two terriers, Maggie and Sophie. Ed was an original because his love of literature led him to share the works of and provide insights into such influential writers as Amis, Roth, Thompson and Bellow. Ed was an original because whether you agreed with him or not he'd always respect your opinion. He was a loyal Democrat who had utter contempt for FOX News and the type of politics they support.
Ed was the hub of an eclectic, caring group of friends who will miss him dearly. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him we would not only agree we are better people for having known him, but that Ed Frazier was indeed an original.
