George L. Maggio, 86, Leawood, KS, passed away March 9, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th, Leawood, KS, preceded by a Visitation from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Catholic Charities/Adoption or Advice and Aid.
George was born December 11, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, to Lorenzo and Mary Maggio. He graduated from DeLaSalle Academy in 1950 and the Central Missouri State University (now UCM) in 1956. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, 1952-1954. He was a manufacturer’s representative in the hardware and paint sundries industry for over four decades. George was an accomplished golfer and a longtime member of Blue Hills Country Club where he served on the board of directors. He was a founding member of Church of the Nativity, Leawood, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Katherine Gierster. George is survived by: his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy; his sister, Juanita Podraza; his son Mark (Carol) Maggio; his daughters Sandra (Steve) Furman and Amy (Brent) Bayer; grandchildren, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Maggio, Christopher Maggio, Melissa Maggio, Carrie (Patrick) O’Donnell, Courtney Loepker, Cristin Furman, Catherine Furman, Peggy (Caleb) Kothmann and Henry Bayer; and six great grandchildren.
