The world lost a beautiful, true one of a kind soul when Georgia “Georgie” Mary Compton passed away February 18, 2016. Georgie was born July 14, 1931, daughter of Mary and Albert Monsees of Kansas City and spent most of her life living in Prairie Village. She was a graduate of East High School. Georgie married Charles “Charlie” N. Compton July 23, 1959. Together, Georgie and Charlie shared an exciting and adventurous life traveling the world and hosting the best parties. Their next big adventure came when their daughter was born, and later their granddaughter. For those who were lucky enough to have known Georgie, they knew she was the life of the party, told the best stories, always offered great (albeit blunt) advice, and always put the love for her family and friends above all else. Though those of us left behind are utterly heartbroken, we are comforted knowing she is now reunited with her mother and husband, both of whom she had missed greatly since their passing. Georgie is survived by her daughter, Mary C. Benz (spouse Brian Hill) of Overland Park, and her granddaughter Kelsey M. Benz of Prairie Village. In the coming days, weeks, months and years when the pain of her passing is strong, Georgie would remind us, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Albert J. Monsees Scholarship Fund, UMKC Dental School, 650 E 25th St., Kansas City, MO 64108 or to Great Plains ASPCA, 5428 Antioch Dr., Merriam, KS 66202.
