My dad didn't have to say a word: I just knew growing up that I should try my hardest to earn A's in school, be on time (perhaps that one didn't stick!) and treat others as I want to be treated. Without pressuring me, he inspired me to act and perform in a way that would make him proud. 

He and my mom, Georgia, raised us to trust our faith and rely on it, especially during times when we were worried. We laughed a lot together over the years, and I'm thankful for all the fun times we shared with our cousins, aunts and uncles - especially playing Balderdash (with our own spin). 

I was a teenage brat when we took our trip to the West and explored many parks, including the Grand Canyon. I regret complaining - and initially refusing to get out of the car at Arches National Park - but I know my dad is proud now that I inherited his love of nature, exploring and stopping at every park along the way. I sometimes intentionally take the scenic route! 

For those who didn't know him well, Gerry was kind, funny and inquisitive. Highly intelligent yet never one to flaunt it. I love the life he gave us together and will work hard to keep his memory alive.

Gerry and I shared our first date with his Aunt Dolly and cousin Sharon!  He worried that maybe I wouldn't like that but it impressed me that he cared about family.  Gerry and I made many trips across the state, visiting his family in St. Charles, Missouri, where he grew up.  We would have been married 47 years on October 4th.  We shared many memories with friends, vacations, square dancing, family dinners and holidays.  He may have been a man of few words, but I filled that gap with many words.  We may not have agreed on everything but we always agreed on all the important things. We had three beautiful children and enjoyed being their parents and watching them grow.  Our Parish Family at St. Matthew the Apostle was very important to us.  It will never be the same again but I treasure the time we had together and am thankful for this.

Cousin Gerry was very intelligent, but never flaunted it.  He had a quiet sense of humor and I remember him laughing at me because our Mom let me drive on the country roads when I was 13 years old (the times have changed!!). Our Aunt Dolly and me drove to KC to visit Gerry at his new apartment and we got to go on Gerry and Georgia's first date with them!!  I was happy that we didn't scare Georgia away and I think that was very kind of Gerry to invite us along.  He was a truly good man.

Gerry was more than a cousin, he was like my brother.  There are so many wonderful memories I remember with Gerry.  He was so kind & he will definitely be missed.  
Gone way too soon.

Not many people like rhubarb the way our family does, and it's all thanks to our Dad. He instilled a love of the outdoors in us every spring with his meticulously mapped-out gardening plans on graph paper and the seed packets he had ordered from catalogs, which always included a new vegetable we had never heard of (think kohlrabi). I'm so grateful he was even able to pass this love of nature on to Gavin, as they hoed and planted pea seeds together this past spring. This planning carried over into the summers when he ordered pamphlets and information for our many fun-filled vacations, a feat much more labor-intensive than today's click of a button. Once fall approached, Mom was up early making coffee and our lunches, and Dad was there to kiss her goodbye every morning as she handed him his Thermos. Even after long days of work, he played ball with us, helped with our math homework, read us books, and said our prayers with us at bedtime. I fondly remember his laughter, his coupon-clipping, his barbecue, his quiet nature, and his dedication to and love of family. Dad, you will always be in my heart. We love and miss you.

Uncle Gerry will be missed greatly. He always wore a smile and seemed genuinely happy. I will always think of the amazing garden he grew and how I always wished I had his gardening skills. Love and prayers to Georgia, Steve, Heather, Jocelyn & their families.

Most of my favorite childhood memories are from times spent with my family in Kansas City.  Uncle Gerry was a perpetual character in these memories.  While quiet at the surface, he was steadfast in his capacity as a trusted friend, father, and uncle.

He was my Uncle Gerry, he was my Godfather, and he was great at both.  He watched a lot of "shows" we performed in the family room and clapped for us.  I liked how he listened to the Royals play on the radio whenever he was driving.  I miss him, but I will always remember him and his kind demeanor.  If only more of us could be like he was.

I will Gerry very much. He always made me and my family feel welcome. He was good to my parents. I enjoyed watching with him shows he recorded. He had a good sense of humor and I liked hearing him laugh. I loved the way he said Georgia's name. He was a good husband and father. Bless you Georgia, Stephen, Heather and Jocelyn.

You are all in our prayers during this difficult time. I always loved coming over to the Auckly house.  There are always sweet treats and fresh garden veggies. Uncle Gerry will be missed by many!

Sorry for your loss. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.  Your family is a close family and that is something special.

Mr. Auckly was such a great man with such a wonderful family. I love all the Aucklys and hold a special place for them in my heart. God be with you all.

Dad would come home from work to me holding my glove, a baseball, and his glove. He was never too tired to play catch. He could always help with homework. I didn't realize it until many years later, but I was following in his footsteps - same college, a son, two daughters, a quiet steady demeanor. Dad, I love you and you will live on in our memories forever. Thank you.
