

Harold Dewees Rice, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away April 19, 2014 at Menorah Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road.
Mr. Rice was born May 31, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the greater Kansas City area all his life. He also cherished the family lake home in Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He graduated from Paseo High School in 1939, and Kansas City Junior College, and attended the Art Institute. He began his 44 year career with Hallmark Cards in 1941 as a retouch artist, and retired as Group Vice President and was a member of the Board of Directors.
He founded the City of Fountains Foundation and served on the Board of Directors for many years. Mr. Rice was active in scouting, many civic projects, and church throughout the years, and taught Sunday School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar L. and Atha C. Rice, wife Margaret Rice, and sister Mary Lee Sebert. Mr. Rice is survived by his children Bonnie Kelly and husband Ed Brendecke of Lenexa, Kansas; son Dr. David Rice of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren Caitlin Rice, Canaan Rice, Jennifer Parreira, Peter Schmidt, Sam Rice and Austin Rice; great-grandchildren Alaena, Bella, Thomas, Charlie, John, Tommy, Kimberly and Max. He is also survived by his cherished companion of thirteen years Dorothy Bussing.
