Jackson B. Erwin, Jr., 71 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his wife and sons, in the outdoors that he loved so much. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 309 Benton Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri 64124, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Jackson was born on June 10, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri to Orpha Virginia (Graenser) Erwin and Jackson B. Erwin, Sr. He was the 5th child of nine in the family. He had good memories of his childhood.
Jackson served in the United States Marine Corps and earned the rank of Lance Corporal. He took great pride in being a Marine. Jackson was an active employee of the United States Postal Service until death, having 49 plus years of service.
Jackson had also been a member of the Knights of Columbus, earning Fourth Degree status. He served on the Parish Council of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He received the Bishop’s Recognition Award.
Jackson was devoted to God, his family, his country and friends. He attended all of his sons’ sporting events and activities throughout the years and was a dedicated Dad and husband. Jackson always thought of, and put, others before himself. He was an amazing human being, with great strength of character, giving his all to everything he did—including the willpower to keep going and complete whatever needed to be done—never needing to be praised.
Jackson was preceded in death by his unborn child, his parents, his sisters, Jackie, Eva and Barbara Dee; and his brothers, Albert and Kenny. Jackson is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Janet A. (Klassen) Erwin; two sons, Jackson B. Erwin III and Joshua A. Erwin; three brothers, Robert Erwin, David Erwin (wife, Anita) and Bill Erwin; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, whom he loved very much; and many nieces and nephews, whom he also loved very much.
Flowers are welcome, but if you want to make a contribution to an organization in memory of Jackson, please make the contribution to St. Luke’s Hospice House, noting it was in memory of him.
