

James Wisner Galle, 89, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away December 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. Mr. Galle was born January 24, 1922 in McPherson, Kansas, son of James and Emma (Wisner) Galle. On November 26, 1947 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, he married Burnett Replogle. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. He served in combat in World War II stationed in Britain, in the Korean War, and Tan Son Nhut AB in the Vietnam War. He retired as Director of Personnel at Richards-Gebaur AFB, Belton, Missouri in 1970. He received an AB History from the University of Kansas in 1947 and a MS Education from the University of California in 1968. He had served as Associate Dean for Administration, Park College-Crown Center, Kansas City, Missouri and Extension Director, National College of Business, Kansas City, Missouri and Shawnee Mission, Kansas Extensions (Home Campus-Rapid City, South Dakota). He was an avid gardener and fisherman. Mr. Galle was a member of the VFW, Retired Officer’s Association and the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He was also a member of Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, Kansas, and was gold level member and founding member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was also a board member of the McPherson Historical Society, Prairie Village Park Board, and served on Board of Director’s Master Gardener’s Association and Community Living Opportunities. He was a life member of the National Association of Concerned Veterans and the University of Kansas Alumni Association. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and an avid marksman. He was preceded in death by his wife Burnett Galle in 1990 and his sisters Mary and Sally. Mr. Galle is survived by his sons James R. and wife Diane Galle of Overland Park, Kansas and David C. and wife Sue Galle of Leawood, Kansas; five grandchildren Lauren, Adrienne, Carrie Beth, Christopher and Maggie; and niece Laura Harper.
