

James Ralph Schmiege, a faithful, kind-hearted, and devoted man, passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 6, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Frank and Lillian (Gosch) Schmiege, James lived a life full of love and dedication.
James graduated from Monmouth High School in 1955 and attended the Missouri Institute of Technology. He dedicated 35 years of his career to Western Electric, working in statistical quality control, before taking early retirement. He was also a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers.
On November 7, 1964, James married Marjorie Elaine Breitag. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife on February 13, 2012, as well as by his parents and sister, Ethel Haines. James is survived by his sons, Michael Schmiege and Paul Schmiege and wife, Sunniva; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nicholas Schmiege; great-grandson, Alexander Engelman; and brother, Leonard Schmiege and wife, Joyce.
James had a passion for bike riding, camping, and hiking in the great outdoors. He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as an Usher, contributing to his community with dedication.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of Angels of Care and Ascend Hospice for their support and care for James.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, on January 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7500 Oak St, Kansas City, MO 64114, on January 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The committal service will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131, from 2:00 pm to 2:15 pm.
