

James (Jim) P. Youngblood, age 86, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away July 7, 2011, at the Forum Care Center. A celebration of life service will be held July 12, 2011, 11:00 am, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service. Burial will be immediately following the service. Jim was born December 2, 1924, in Springfield, Missouri, to George and Mae Youngblood. He graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Missouri. After graduation Jim joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a Second Lieutenant in World War II. On January 29, 1947, Jim married Lydia Swadley and celebrated 64 years of marriage earlier this year. Jim studied and received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at University of Missouri-Rolla. He received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He was employed 38 years by Southwestern Bell as a District Manager and worked in various states. After retirement, he owned and operated a custom frame business in his home. Jim was a member of Leawood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In addition to church, he was involved in civic organizations such as Boy Scouts of America, Optimist Club, Pioneers, and Kiwanis. Jim was known for his gentle spirit and his love of family. He was a man of great conviction and integrity. Jim is survived by his wife, Lydia, Overland Park, Kansas. Sons: Gary (Clara) Youngblood of Kansas City, Missouri, and John (Kathy) Youngblood of Pleasanton, California. Grandchildren: Christa Youngblood (Rob) Fox, Richmond, Virginia, Melissa Youngblood (Matthew) Clark, Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Josh Youngblood, Los Angeles, California, and David (Dana) Youngblood, Livermore,California. Great grandchildren: Ashten and Bryson Fox of Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Leawood Baptist Church.
