Janice Louise Wiltshire Kelley, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was gathered by angels on April 20, 2017. Jan was preceded in death by Charles Oliver Kelley - her husband of 61 loving years. She is survived by her daughters, Alison Stewart of Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C.), and Colleen Kelley of Salt Lake City, Utah; by two grandsons, Ryan Stewart of Sonora Island, B.C., and Blair Stewart of Qualicum Beach, B.C.; by her sister-in-law Betsy Freeman of Tryon, North Carolina; and by Terry Tippin Miller, Jan's B.F.F. of nearly 50 years.
After Jan graduated from Endicott Junior College, she travelled to San Salvador to spend her 21st birthday with college roommates Janet Oliver and Celia Jokisch de Arguello. When her children were grown, Jan worked for the Kansas City Association of Trusts and Foundations, and later Kelley Metal Sales. She completed rigorous studies to become an oblate of the Order of St. Benedict.
Tennis was one of Jan's passions, brought to life by Hall of Fame tennis player and beloved tennis coach, Terry Miller. Together Terry and Jan spent countless hours volleying tennis balls and witty one-liners - both performed with perfect form. In support of Miller, Jan completed the MS 150 charity bike ride three times, riding with Trudy Nepstad. Jan and Chuck enjoyed traveling with their wild pals Jessie and Dick Tighe, and cherished the active social circle at Leawood Country Club, and Garden Club friends. While age took its toll, Jan lived every day as an adventure, a wonderful surprise, and another excuse to laugh. Jan will be greatly missed by all blessed to know her kindness, her grace, and her megawatt smile.
Jan's funeral will be held 4:00 pm Friday, April 28, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mt. Saint Scholastica, Atchison, KS, will be appreciated.
Arrangements under the direction of Mt Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
