

Jerry graduated from Central High School and later attended Kansas City University. It was at Central High that Jerry would meet his future wife, Kay. Jerry and Kay began their courtship after dancing together at a street dance in the summer of 1954. They were engaged at Kay’s senior prom and were married on June 6th, 1958. They settled in Kansas City, Missouri and had 3 children: Jennifer, Kristin, and Bryce. Jerry adored his wife. A couple for 65 years, Jerry and Kay’s love for one another was evident to all who knew them.
Jerry served in the United States Army Reserves for 6 years. He was honorably discharged in October 1964.
Jerry held many occupations, including: Field Office Manager for Torson Construction, Salesperson for Sears, and Rug Salesman for The Jones Store where Jerry earned the title of Top Salesman. He retired from the Jones Store in 1998 after 30 years. He and Kay took all of their kids, spouses, and grandkids to Disneyworld to celebrate his retirement.
Jerry enjoyed traveling with his wife, Kay, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and serving within his church. Jerry’s faith was an important part of his life. His spiritual mentor was Al Duer. He and his wife Kay were members of Red Bridge Church of Christ where Jerry served as Deacon for 3 years and Elder for 25 years. He also taught Sunday School, led a Men’s Prayer Breakfast, and visited the sick and lonely.
Jerry was known for his contagious laugher, his storytelling, and his magic tricks. Because of this, he was often the center of attention. A true extrovert, Jerry loved to work a room. Jerry enjoyed reading (particularly about history), writing short stories, throwing darts, and spending time with his family.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, and his son, Bryce.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, of the home. His two daughters: Jennifer (David) Scarbrough and Kristin Gregg. Daughter-in-law: Adrienne Zinn. 11 grandchildren: Brant (Kaydee) Gregg, Lucas (Sara) Gregg, Kindol (Connor) Bahr; Sarah (Christopher) Douglas, Aaron Scarbrough, Graham Scarbrough; Elaina (Jeremiah) Watts, Gunnar Ehlers, Isabel Ehlers, Elijah Zinn, and Audrey Zinn. Great-granddaughter: Rebekah Douglas. Two great-grandsons: Jonathan Douglas and Silas Jerome Gregg. A brother-in-law: John (Von) Hayward. Nephews: Jay (Lonna) Hayward and Jerome Reid (Carrie) Hayward.
Private services will be held for the family due to COVID restrictions.
