

Gerald Michael "Jerry" Malone, 68, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at his home in Leawood, Kansas. Jerry was born September 7, 1951, in Oberlin, Kansas to Francis “Tim” Gerald Malone and Joann Marie (Huss) Malone. Above all else, Jerry was a man of deep faith and family. His family and friends will remember him as a gentle and kind husband, father, brother, friend and grandfather. Jerry was baptized in to the faith and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Herndon, Kansas. He actively participated over the years as an involved parishioner at Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kansas. Jerry loved gardening, walks with Rocky, the family dog, coaching his daughter’s basketball teams, visiting his grandchildren, attending family gatherings and praying the Rosary faithfully. You could always find Jerry at Nativity Catholic Church where he was either presiding over a Serra Club meeting, attending Adoration, participating in men’s group, or lecturing at Mass. Jerry was a good man whom, above all else, wanted to help get his friends and family to heaven. He loved and adored his children and grandchildren and was deeply committed to his Catholic faith.
Jerry received his primary education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Herndon, Kansas. He attended St. Francis Seminary in Victoria, Kansas where he obtained his High School education. Jerry was looking forward to attending his 50th high school reunion in Victoria, Kansas this past weekend where he was planning to put on a presentation. However, God had other plans for Jerry.
After high school he obtained his Chemistry degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. While there Jerry met his wife, Janet, to whom he remained faithful for 34 years. Jerry then traveled to Kansas City and obtained his MBA at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Early in Jerry’s professional career he took a job with Ewing Kauffman at Marion Laboratories where he proudly worked his entire professional career. His career required significant international travel and took him to Japan numerous times.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father Francis “Tim” Gerald Malone; his Aunt Kathleen Malone, his grandparents Jerry and Catherine (Walsh) Malone, and John and Emma (Keplinger) Huss. He is survived by his wife, Janet Marie Malone of the home; his children, Joanna (Malone) Orscheln and husband Billy, and Juliana (Malone) Willis and her husband Ryan, his mother, Joann M. Malone, his siblings including Bruce Leitner, Rosalie Wilkinson, Nancy Malone, John Malone and James Malone; grandchildren Millie Rose and William "Brooks" Orscheln and Ruby Jo Willis; his nephews David and Rory Leitner, his nieces Jill (Wilkinson) Henning, Kayla (Wilkinson) Newman, Megan Wynn, Randee (Boggs) Olive and his great nieces and nephews.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with family at the visitation. There will be a Rosary at 9:00 a.m followed by the Visitation Tuesday, September 24, from 9:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m., at Church of the Nativity in Leawood, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Burial will be Wednesday, September 25 in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Herndon, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Catholic Charities or the Kauffman Foundation.
