She was actively involved at Hickman Mills Community Christian Church for almost 70 years and was an Elder Emeritus. She was well-known as “the ham and bean dinner” lady and was involved in many activities at the church, including Christian Women’s Fellowship, quilting, and teaching Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Order of True Kindred with titles of Past Worthy Commander of Keystone Conclave in Grandview MO, Past Worthy Grand Commander of the State of Missouri, and Past Worthy Supreme Commander of the USA and Canada. She was a Campfire Girls leader and a PTA officer at her children’s schools. She belonged to a Red Hat group, a Bunko group, and played dominoes with her neighborhood group.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Gwendolyn Ocamb, her brother Bud Ocamb, and her loving husband, Walter K. Schneider.
She is survived by her children Marla Seck (Leo) of Leawood, Kansas and Dean Schneider (Paula) of Raymore, Missouri. Her great-grandchildren Juliet Schneider, Avery Hodge, Lynlee Hodge, Zander Hodge, Graham Seck, and Merrick Seck.
Jo Ann was an amazing wife and mother and loved being with her family more than anything else, especially her great-grandchildren. Her Christian faith was endless. She loved people and made friends easily. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards with her family, sewing, making crafts, and quilting. She loved to bake - her specialties included Povitica bread and homemade cookies. She really enjoyed watching the Royals games on TV.
The family would like to thank Carnegie Village and Residential Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Jo Ann in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her honor to Hickman Mills Community Christian Church.
