A military graveside service will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 3rd at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Kansas City Hospice House or the Raytown Historical Society.
Joe is survived by his daughters Pam (Curt) Aller of Keota, Iowa, Karlyn (Fred) Mayes of Dunnegan, Missouri, son Nic (Rosanne) Smith of Raytown, Missouri, brothers Ed and Bob Smith, brother-in-laws Frank and Don Roberts, as well as his many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Roberts) Smith, parents Minor and Helen (Rice) Smith, and brother Calvin Smith.
Joe was a proud veteran of the Korean War Era. Having served his country, he returned to Raytown where he spent his life operating Smith Bros Ready Mix Concrete Co. Joe found pleasure in hard work and “hanging out” with family and friends.
Joe will be greatly missed for his quick wit and enduring love. May he rest in peace knowing that his family will honor him with a plan to “carry it forward”.
God Bless the USA.
