Born and raised in Butler, Missouri, John started working at the Butler Coca-Cola plant alongside his father at age twelve. He graduated from Butler High School in 1967 and was then drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Trained in artillery, he served two years, mostly in Germany, after his orders were changed last minute, and was, honorably discharged as a Specialist E-4, with Sharpshooter M 14 designation. After his military service, John moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and began working at Avon Products, where he met his wife, Connie. John and Connie married in 1975 and welcomed their daughter, Gina, in 1980. After the closure of the Avon plant, John got a job at Marion Laboratories, where he worked for a little under twenty years before the company was outsourced. After selling real estate with Connie and Gina for a few years, he finished his career at the Harrisonville Walmart Distribution Center where he retired.
John enjoyed doing yard work and selecting flowers each spring with his wife, Connie. He also enjoyed family outings with Connie and their daughter, Gina, as well as watching sports on television or in person, but mostly the Kanas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Missouri Tigers. A devoted uncle and great-uncle, he also, enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews and attending their school and sporting events. His main hobby, though, was community meetings as he was very interested in local politics and bettering the Southside of Kansas City, Missouri. As John enjoyed flowers, please feel free to remember him by planting something in your yard, or by donating to Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS), where his daughter, Gina, serves as an ambassador.
