

John "Jack" E. Gallagher, age 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away on Friday March 31, 2017. He was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on January 26, 1926 to John and Jessie Mae Gallagher who precede him in death. In high school, Jack found a purpose in ROTC and was inducted into the Army just after graduating. It was in the German theater of World War II that he joined the Signal Corps, prior to his Air Force career, all of which spanned more than 22 years. He earned two Bronze Service Stars for his participation in the Rhineland and Central European Campaign. Rising to the rank of Master Sergeant with the 442 Military Airlift Wing, he retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1967, during that time making a living working for Western Electric and retiring in 1983. He then became a volunteer member with the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In 1949, he married Geraldine West who preceded him in death in 1989. Their daughter, Gale, was born just two years later. His three great loves in life were his time spent in the Air Force traveling the world, boating at the Lake of the Ozarks while serving as an active member of the Heart of America Boat Club from 1960 to 2016, and above all else, his family. Family was of great importance to him in life, always doing his best to help out and keep tabs on his loved ones. Some of his proudest moments were the births of his grandchildren and great grandchild. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter Gale and her husband Larry Cummings of Overland Park, grandson Kevin Cummings of Overland Park, granddaughter Stacey and her husband Adam Sales and their son Andrew of Olathe, KS. He is also survived by his sisters Wilma Wurzer of Kansas City, MO, Colleen Hopper of Lenexa, KS, and Patricia Maloney of Aurora, NY.
Services will be held Friday, April 7th, 2017 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, with visitation 10am-noon, service at noon followed immediately by graveside services at Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
