John K. Miller of Princeton, Missouri, passed away on July 16, 2018 at Shawnee Mission South Hospital. John was one of six children born to Pete and Mary Miller, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Fred and Lee Miller, his sisters: Edith Thornburg and Melvina Holmberg, his wife of 25 years, Aline D. Miller and his wife of 25 years, Daphene D. Miller.
John grew up in Kansas City, KS., attending Kansas City Kansas Community College after graduating from high school. He enlisted in the Coast Guard during World War II and served as a Fireman First Class aboard ships along the East Coast of the United States. John was a fun-loving, hard working man, who impacted his colleagues and customers in countless ways. His chosen profession was as a meat-cutter/butcher and he was a proud member of The Amalgamated Meat-cutter and Butcher Workman’s Union. He was able to fulfill a career dream when he opened his own meat shop in Mission, Kansas; which he operated until retirement.
John was a devoted husband and father, who taught his children a love of the outdoors, a thirst for hard work, a passion for play, an appreciation of humor, and a reverence for the K.U. Jayhawks. A versatile athlete, John enjoyed playing: (and teaching his children to play) Baseball, basketball, tennis, stocking ball and golf. As a member of the Princeton Municipal Golf Course and part-time care-taker, John had a love for golf that wasn’t always reciprocated, yet he played up until the time he was no longer physically able.
John and his wife, Daphene, were treasured members of the Princeton, Missouri community, where they enjoyed enduring friendships. As a man of faith, John attended the Princeton United Methodist Church in Princeton.
John is survived by: Sons: David Miller of Louisburg, KS, Mike Miller of Las Vegas, NV., Daughter: Kaili (formerly Linda) Young of Ft. Collins, CO., Stepsons: Paul Alley (Lexa), of Merriam, KS, Bill Alley (Sandy), of Hollister, MO., 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grand-children, 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, Sister: Mary Lou Cornelius of Overland Park, KS. many nieces and nephews, and countless friends whose lives are enriched for having known him.
