Joseph R. “Joe” Heydon, 101, passed away April 19, 2022. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Forest Hill-Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to Seton Center, 2816 E. 23rd St., Kansas City, MO 64127.
Joe was a lifelong Kansas City area resident. He was a WWII veteran having served in the 8th Army Air Corps 445 Bombardment Group and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. Joe married his longtime sweetheart, Martha, on February 2, 1946 and she preceded him in death in 2016 after 70 years of marriage. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a director of customer service, retiring after 40 years. Joe enjoyed painting and giving away his artwork to family, friends and others at The Forum of Overland Park. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Heydon and a granddaughter in law, Jessica Heydon.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Anne and Bob Gillespie; a daughter in law, Kathleen Heydon; a grandson and his wife and children, Matthew, Amy, Madison, Makinze and Conner Heydon; a grandson and his children, Jonathan, Wyatt and Abigail Heydon; a granddaughter and her husband and daughter, Mary, Michael and Sloan Lister. Joe will be truly missed by all who knew his caring, funny and loving heart.
