

Joseph E. McKenna, Jr. was born on August 29, 1935 and passed away on January 2, 2011. He attended grade schools at St. Mary’s, Pittsburgh and Weir, Kansas where he graduated from Weir City High School in 1953. He began his art and career of laying brick. He worked for Vince Decarlo, Alpha Masonry, and L.E. Green. He then began his own business of brick work in 1976 and worked in his trade until 1993 when he retired. His brick art work can be seen throughout Kansas and Missouri. He built the alter at St. Ann's in Prairie Village KS, the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend Kansas, the St. Philomenes Church in Mound City Kansas, the St. Fidelis Church in Victoria Kansas, the Murphy Building at The University of Kansas Hospital, and the grotto at Guardian Angels Church. Joseph loved to dance, his favorite music was polka. He was an honorary lifetime third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council no. 11735 in Kansas City, Kansas.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. McKenna Sr. and Gertrude (Harrigan) McKenna; his sisters, Kathryn Brownlee & Lillian Wayenberg; and brother, Patrick McKenna He is survived by his wife, Frances Ann; his daughters, Jolita (Jeff) Park, Lisa (Frank) Carroll; sons, Patrick ( Monica) McKenna, Glen (Angie) McKenna; grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, and Keith Park, Joey (Lindsey) Carroll and Suzanne Carroll, Shawn and Caitlin McKenna, Brandon Mulhall, and Alyson McKenna; sisters, Philomena Fromong, Mary (Marvin) Wilson, Veronica (Jim) Boyce; brother, Edward (Jeannie) McKenna; brother-in-law, Gene Wayenberg; plus several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Thurs, Jan 10 at Guardian Angels Church, 1310 Westport Rd, with interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Wed at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, with Rosary at 7pm In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Guardian Angels or Holy Name Churches.
