Nita was born September 14, 1931 in Columbia, MO to the late Joe and Ruby Carlos. She was united in marriage to her husband Stanley Ray Wood on September 4, 1949 at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Columbia, MO. Nita and Ray proudly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 11, 1999 at the Ararat Temple of Kansas City hosted by their beloved granddaughter, Amber Wood McFarland.
Nita was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, her church, and her community. Ray and Nita loved to travel and spend time with the Wood/Carlos families. Nita enjoyed quilting, crocheting, volunteering at the Christian Church of Independence, and playing beautiful music on her keyboard.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Amber Wood McFarland (Craig) Odessa, MO;
great-grandchildren, the two very special lights in Nita’s world, Kinley Rae McFarland and Cole Bradley McFarland of Odessa, MO; one sister, Shirley Link (Don) Holt’s Summit, MO; sister-in-law, Maxine Wood, Kansas City, MO; and a special Friend, George Norwood of Blue Springs, MO.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Alan Ray Wood; her brother, Billy Joe Carlos, and several members of the Wood family.
Nita will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, witty jokes, and the special pride she took in looking beautiful every day. She truly enjoyed and looked forward to all of her special visits with Kinley, Cole & Pepper. She was sincere, generous, welcoming, and someone you would be proud to call a friend. Throughout her life, her faith in the Lord helped guide her way.
