Judy was born in Kansas City, MO, to Rudolph and Mary Belle Schibler. She was the middle child of three. She grew up in Prairie Village and attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and Bishop Miege and Shawnee Mission East High Schools. She attended the University of Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree. She taught high school English before pursuing work at Capitol Federal Savings, where she would later return and work until her passing. She also worked for the Marine Corps Finance Center in Kansas City. She sold Avon Products for more than 25 years, making many friends through that journey.
She spent most of her working years at home, raising her four kids, who she would tell everyone she was proud of. She was active in school and extracurricular settings, serving as a room mother and school carnival volunteer, a volunteer with scout groups, and a consistent shuttle driver for various other activities.
Judy was known to “adopt” creatures of all kinds, whether they were stray cats and rescued dogs, or friends of her kids, who grew to appreciate “Mama Bulcock” as someone who would love them like her own. She loved spending time with her family, playing bingo, and sharing card games or recipes with her kids, both of which were cherished memories she had with her own mother.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Mary Belle Schibler. She is survived by her four adult children, John Bulcock of Mankato, MN; Bryan Bulcock (Shauna) of Spring Hill, KS; David Bulcock (Megan) of Overland Park, KS; and Ann Bulcock (Travis Standiford) of Blue Springs, MO. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Marshall and Isabel. She is survived by her former husband, Steve Bulcock (Laurie) of Overland Park, also the father of her children. Survivors also include siblings, Sally Schibler of Cripple Creek, CO, and Tony Schibler (Jean) of Durham, NC.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 8, at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., in Overland Park, KS. Visitation with the family will precede Mass, beginning at 9:30 am. A luncheon will follow on the Church’s lower level. Private family burial will follow. Arrangements handled by McGilley State Line Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Great Plains SPCA or the animal rescue of the donor’s choice.
