

Julia Ann Simpson passed on January 14, 2014 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. She was born on February 23, 1919 in New Bloomfield, MO. Her parents lost their family farm in the depression and moved to Kansas City. Julia graduated from Central High School in 1935 at the age of 16. Three years later, she met the love of her life, Ray Simpson, on the streetcar they both took to work in downtown K.C. They had been married 55 years when Ray died in 1994. Julia was known for her engaging smile, great sense of humor and wit. She had a keen interest and understanding in politics. She was a loving mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. On many Sundays, five generations of her family worshipped together at Holmeswood Baptist Church. She will always be a role model for the entire family. She volunteered for five years at Research Hospital and also volunteered as a reader at the Martin City Grade School. Julia was also active in the Lee Manor Garden Club and Red Bridge Social Club. She was an avid bridge player. Julia was a longtime member of The Jewels Sunday School Class at Holmeswood. She leaves her two children and their spouses, Walt and Patsy Simpson, and Connie and John Shibley; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister, niece Peggy, grandson Deric and infant grandson, Brian. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18 at Holmeswood Baptist Church, 9700 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 17 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. The family suggests donations to K.C.
