

She was born on August 27, 1942 in Independence, Missouri where she grew up. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and went to High School at St. Therese’s Academy.
Her father owned Pat O’Leary & Associates in Fairway, Kansas and the business was an important part of her family’s life. She was actively involved in Girl Scouts and her parents were scout leaders. She was a BOTAR (Belle of the American Royal).
In 1965 she married her first husband Edward William Hokanson. They lived in Carthage, MO before moving to Prairie Village, KS. In 1975 she and Ed, with their four children moved the family to Grand Junction, CO where she worked as a bookkeeper and office administrator at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
In Colorado, Katherine enjoyed camping, cross-country skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
She moved back home to Kansas City in 1985 to be closer to her parents and worked for the archdiocese in Kansas City, among other bookkeeping jobs while attending business school at Baker University.
After marrying Walter Myers she moved to Canon City, CO where she and Walt lived quietly surrounded by mountains and became hobby vintners. After later moving to Winsor, CO she volunteered at the local hospital.
She is a two-time breast cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Arthur (Pat) O’Leary and Mary Francis Hughes.
She is survived by her husband Walter Myers; sister Mary Foster; brother Richard O’Leary; children Edward William Hokanson III, Katherine Paisley Case, Helen (Holly) Elizabeth Hokanson and Patrick O’Leary Hokanson; her grandchildren Kerry Hokanson, Caleb Hokanson, Dr. Anna Case, Jacepine Hokanson, Stella Hokanson, Isaac Hokanson and Owen Hokanson
The family would like to thank Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
A visitation for Katherine will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 AM. A committal of ashes will conclude services in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
