

Kay was born January 26, 1943 in Independence, Missouri. She graduated from Raytown High School and received an Associates Degree from Longview Community College. Kay worked various secretarial jobs throughout her life, as well as, working at a child daycare, an adult daycare, and owning her own catering business. She later returned to a secretarial position at Xpedx Paper Company where she retired.
Kay had a heart for serving others and was extremely involved in volunteer work starting at the Rehabilitation Institute back in the 1980’s. She was a member of the Raytown Optimist Club with her parents and followed in her dad’s footsteps to become President. She was also a member and President of the Blue Ridge Optimist Club and a member of the Sugar Creek Optimist Club. The highest position she held was Governor of the West Missouri District of Optimist International.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Barry Smith; her parents, Robert and Donis Ragsdale; her brother, Kirk Ragsdale; and her brother, Timothy Ragsdale. She leaves behind a loving family including her five children: Tahni (Tom) Chiarelli, Shawna (Jason) Yosick, Sean Smith, Gary Smith (Kirsten Ratteree), and Harli Smith (Dan Shedd); her 10 grandchildren: Patrick, Adam, Meaghan, Travis, Samantha, Anthony, Alexandria, Abigail, Mackenzie, and Brooklynn; and 13 great-grandchildren: Sydney, Ava, Olivia, Addison, Violet, KJ, Isaac, Emmett, Gemma, Elaina, Rosalynn, Augustus, and Kaudi.
