Kyra was born on Saturday, May 13, 1961 the day before Mother's Day. She has always thought of herself as the ultimate Mother's Day gift, as I am sure her parents Bob & Judy Moeder did. She has one brother, 3 years her junior, Robert Glen Moeder (she still reserves the right to call him Bobby). She lived in the Greater Kansas City area all of her life, as did most of her family and enjoyed the closeness of her extended family.
She graduated from Center High School in 1979, received her A.A. in Administrative of Justice and her A.A.S. in Corrections from Penn Valley Community College in the early 1980's and her B.S. in Elementary Education from Avila College in 1991. She held many different jobs from Pre-School teacher to Commercial Customer Service Rep, all helping people until her health prevented her from working in the mid 90's. Kyra is a fighter and fought to reveal her true self again.
Her health improved to the extent and beyond, so that she was able to become her Grandmothers care provider for two years, prior to her grandmother's transition. This was the spring board for her life’s greatest rewarding works; being and opening of love, joy and peace to those in transition. Kyra spent many hours a day often in silent communion with those suffering the pains of their illnesses, opening her heart to them to allow an expanded awareness to their hearts in comfort and joy. Even through fighting infections which ultimately resulted in the below the knee amputation of both of her legs first in 2002 and the second in 2009, she never lost her enthusiasm for life and her faith in a higher power. She knew she was not her legs. The I AM of her was a much greater thing. She put her seemingly negative experiences, to use again in working with others experiencing limb loss. She became a chaplain, working mostly with terminally ill & limb loss patients and their families.
One of Kyra's earliest accomplishments was winning 1st place in tri-state art contest and 4th in the national contest, with the evening bag she made being on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. Kyra has been involved in the Order Of the Eastern Star, obtaining the rank of Past Matron. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and has held several offices on different levels of the organization. Kyra became an ordained minister with the Church of Healers International in 2002 after completing their initiation program. Kyra is also member of Unity Church of Overland Park and active in the Unity Movement. She has worked in the Telephone Prayer Ministry at Silent Unity, since 2001. She completed the Spiritual Enrichment and Enlightenment program in 2015 & Masters of Divinity in 2017, with Unity Institute. She incorporates many rituals of the world’s religions in her own Spiritual practices.
She loved her pets and considered them her children. Kyra loved to be creative with her hands, she enjoyed many different craft mediums, including working with natural stones and developing Kyra's Krystals and Jewelry, a medium for the distribution of these lovely creations and found the love of miniatures. Creating many tiny delicate scaled replicas in different collector sizes and was on the board of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts 2014 national convention.
As time eases the pain of your felt loss, so does the sharing of Kyra's specialness with one another. Not only now but as you go on to live your lives take the time to share, and in the sharing remember the love you feel for her and she for you and allow that love to envelope you, surely as her arms themselves.
A Celebration of Kyra's Life and spreading of her ashes will be in the Rose Garden at Unity Village, 1901 NW Blue Parkway on Saturday, April 30th at 11:00am. All are invited.
