

Larry Glenn McClendon Sr. was born October 28, 1946 to Willie Fred and Willie Bell McClendon in Ozark, Alabama. He was the sixth son and the 7th child. At the age of 5 the family moved to Phenix City, Alabama. He grew up in this small town. After moving to Phenix City a new member joined the family, a baby girl. Now he was a big brother. He would love her throughout his life.
Larry attended Susie B. Allen elementary school and high school until 9th grade. He worked various jobs, one of which was at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Larry’s parents, Fred and Willie Bell; brothers, Willie Fred Jr., Cort Anders, Mack, AZ; sister Oujeda Faye White and son, Larry Jr. preceded him in death.
Larry’s journey with the Lord began as a child at Allen Temple AME Church in Phenix City, Alabama. He grew to love the Lord through all the teachings of Sunday School and different YPD programs.
In 1969 he moved to Kansas City, MO to join his brother Mack and unknowingly met the love of his life, Jamie.
Both became employed at the “Old General” Hospital (University) in the same department. They would later marry and have one child from this union, Larry Jr.. Both had children from previous relationships, LaTanya and James. This union would last for 55 years.
He and his wife became members of Cain Grant in 2006 later merging with Ward Chapel in 2020. He was a member of the Sons of Allen at Cain Grant and served on the Steward Board of both. He also retired from Truman Hospital (University) after 22 years of service.
He leaves to mourn him, his loving wife, Jamie, son James E. Grayson, daughter, LaTanya Word (Mike), brother, John W. McClendon (Anita), sister, Gail Smith; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, friends too numerous to name, but not forgotten.
