

Lawrence Mosnick, 80, of Leawood, Kan., passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House in the presence of his family. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Sept. 26, 1930, to John and Josephine Mosnick. Larry attended St. James Catholic School, Lillis High School and Rockhurst University. In 1949, he met the love of his life, Clarice Wefenstette, and they were married on Feb. 9, 1952. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and especially enjoyed his duty on the USS Monterey at Pensacola, Fla. He was an avid baseball player and played in the Ban Johnson League. As a young man he participated in the sport of boxing and won the Golden Gloves heavyweight championship in 1948. He was also an avid bowler where he built many lifelong friendships. He was employed by Allied Callaway Equipment Co., for over 40 years as a Sales Representative. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time at his Lake of the Ozarks home with family and friends. He spent many patient hours in the boat trying to teach children and friends tubing and waterskiing. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, served as Grand Knight, was a member of St. Thomas more Council 14270 and a member of Father Donnelley Fourth Degree Assembly. He had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of St. James and St. Thomas More Catholic Churches. His greatest passion and source of pride were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Clarice Mosnick, and his children and spouses, Beverly Mosnick of Kansas City, Debbie and Greg Schmidt of North Andover, Mass., Larry, Jr., and Phyllis Mosnick of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Stephanie and Ted Ennis of Kansas City. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jessica, Jake and Nathaniel Schmidt, Emily, Alex and Christina Mosnick, and Lauren and Teddy Ennis. We want to especially thank the staff and stroke survivors at American Stroke Foundation who provided companionship and rehabilitation for the last five years of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn, Suite 100, Mission, KS 66202. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Mo., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the church. The Ladies of Charity Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
