Leon was born May 1, 1927 in Joplin, Missouri to Mabel and Minford Hoofnagle.
Leon married Mary Hutler of Joplin, Missouri in 1945. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage until her passing in 1997. He was a proud veteran of WWII. Leon worked for over 40 years in the theater business. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and working in his yard.
In 2000 he met and married Barbara Ray of Joplin, Missouri. They were active members in Park Plaza Christian Church. They were married until her death in 2016.
Throughout his life, he was dedicated to studying God's word and being in fellowship with others.
Leon was a friend to all he met, but those most important to him were his family. Leon was dearly loved by all of his family and they will treasure their fond memories and time with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters. Survivors include his sons, Larry Hoofnagle of Lake Zurich, Illinois and Gary Hoofnagle (Lesa) of Leawood, Kansas, his grandchildren, Lindsey, Lacey, Laura and Grant Hoofnagle, brother, Harold Hoofnagle and sisters, Mary Stephens and Helen Wallace.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, followed by services at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
