Kansas City, Kansas - Lewis “Lew” Covell, age 76, passed from this life as peacefully as he had lived it. A loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor, friend, and loving role as father and grandfather, Lew leaves many fond memories as we recall the blessings of his life. These include his dedication to sharing his love for nature and music, his eagerness to travel, his intellectual curiosity, as well as a dependable readiness to help in times of need.
Lew was born August 23, 1944, in Borger, Texas, during WWII to proud parents Merle O Covell and Violet Lewis Covell and happily welcomed into the family by sisters Billie and Dorene. At war’s end the family moved back to their home state of Kansas where they lived until moving to California, Pennsylvania, in the Monongahela Valley where Merle taught in the college and Violet taught high school. And it is here that Lew attended high school as well as college. Upon graduation in 1968, he then moved to Memphis, Michigan, to begin his career teaching math and computer science in the community’s high school.
Upon retirement from teaching in Michigan he chose to move to Kansas City to live near numerous friends and relatives where he proceeded to enjoy opportunities to travel and develop his lifelong love of nature. There he also developed a remarkable collection of pictures that we now treasure as memories of the gift of his life.
Condolences may be sent to Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home in Kansas City, MO.
