

Lola L. Hallauer, born November 1, 1919, to Edward and Lillian Splichal, died September 9, 2011. Her first husband, Ralph Kowertz, was killed in Germany in March 1945 while serving in the U.S. Army. Their son, William H. Kowertz, died in August, 2011. Lola was a resident of the Waldo neighborhood for 67 years, and was married to Robert J. Hallauer for 42 years until his death in 1988. Survivors include her step-son, Joseph B. Hallauer (Claudia), and step-daughter Sandra K. O'Banion (Jim), of Kansas City. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, September 12 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Private graveside services are pending at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Lola was a graduate of St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was a member and sang in the choir of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, and later, a member of Christ the King. She was a court reporter, accountant and then medical secretary. She served as office manager for Dr. William Q. Wu for more than two decades. She served as president of the Missouri Society of the American Association of Medical Assistants. Lola enjoyed bowling with her mother-in-law, Katherine Hallauer. She was an avid reader, with a passion for mysteries. She was an animal lover who always had at least one pet in the house. She especially liked picnics, drive-in movies, building snowmen and other fun times with her family. Lola lived at Wexford Place in Kansas City North for five years before moving to Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The family wishes to express appreciation to Lola’s friends and the staff at Wexford and at Riverside. Special thanks to her roommate, Donna Miller, and to Olson for his kind assistance. Lola leaves grandchildren Kimberly Domingues, William Kowertz II, Mark Kowertz, Joe O’Banion, Robert O’Banion, and Monica Blades, and ten great-grandchildren.
