Lorene M. Mixon, 87, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021. Lorene was born September 4, 1933 to Charles and Margaret O'Laughlin (Grabmiller) in Kansas City, Kansas. When she was 8, her family moved to Gladstone, Missouri. She attended Big Shoal Elementary School and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1951. She began working at General Tire soon after graduation. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Richard H. Mixon. When Richard started building houses, she became his bookkeeper and continued it until her death. Following Richard's death, Lorene began volunteering at the Immacolata Manor Thrift Store in Liberty, Missouri. In 1996, she was awarded the Golden Rule Award from JCPenney for the work she did there. She continued to volunteer at Mission Thrift and Angel's Attic until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, a granddaughter, Lexi Mixon, and one brother, Russell O'Laughlin.
She leaves behind four children, Margaret Sammon, Jayne Gier (Michael), Charles Mixon (Angie), and Richard Mixon, Jr. (Cindy); eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and five siblings.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Friday, April 23, 2021 at St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow services in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.
Charitable contributions in her memory may be made to the Bishop Sullivan Center and KEXS 1090 Catholic Radio Station.
