

Loyd “Max” McCollom, 68, of Kansas City MO passed away at his home on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Visitation services will be at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, on Thursday, January 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11th at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at Mt. Moriah Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to American Heart Association or Hospice of Kansas City.
Max was born January 12, 1944 in Kansas City MO; graduated from Center High School in the class of ’62; and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant stationed in Germany. His love of racing and cars led to his career as a mechanic and eventual Co-Owner of Howard Automotive in 1975. For several years he enjoyed donating his time in leadership positions in Scouting and 3&2 Baseball in south Kansas City. He relaxed watching NASCAR, boat races, the Royals, the Chiefs and collegiate sports, but most importantly he enjoyed spending time year round at the house he built at the Lake of the Ozarks.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Maxine McCollom. He is survived by his children Paula Remington of Greenwood, and Lonnie Carter of Greenwood; brothers Art McCollom of Kansas City, Robert McCollom and wife Aurelia of Kansas City; sister Celia Trusler and husband Steve of Lee’s Summit; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, seven nephews, five nieces, and an abundance of friends.
